Removing a File Extension

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Select Appearance and Personalization or you may be able to jump to Folder Options or File Folder Options.
  3. Select the View tab
  4. In this tab, under the Advanced Settings field uncheck the option: Hide extensions for known file types
  5. click Apply and OK
  6. Right click on the file in Windows Explorer
  7. Select Rename
  8. Delete the extension file text until it says hosts
  9. If you are prompted to continue say yes.
